I chose to work with Lisa due to the relevance, depth and breadth of her experience, plus her many qualifications as a careers advisor and coach – and I am just so glad that I did.

Geraldine Mulligan, doctor

Lisa is an excellent listener, kind, non-judgmental, providing useful tools to aid decision making.

Naomi Fenton, doctor

I have experience holding 1:1 careers sessions with trainees, SAS doctors, international doctors, GPs and NHS consultants who want to look at alternative careers. I have also 1:1 coaching experience with medics and other clinicians who would like leadership or life coaching sessions. These are a powerful way to unlock potential and to have some reflective time to sit back and to review goals as well as achievements.

Career coaching helps you to discover what you want from your life. My coaching will focus on helping you find out what is uniquely meaningful for you and improving your work/life balance. Leadership coaching is about enabling you to make conscious decisions and empowering you to become a leader at work, or in your own life.

Combining career and leadership coaching, I’ll help you to become more organised and structured in your career planning, as well as encouraging you to achieve your leadership goals. You’ll therefore be able to easily articulate your strengths in the marketplace and achieve your perfect role.

N.B. It is helpful to work with someone who has an in-depth understanding of doctors’ careers. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself taking up time explaining the basics, about how the medical training path works, for example.

What is unique about my approach to careers coaching?

The leadership coaching I’ve trained in uses a holistic, integrated approach. It uses a deep psychological model to help you to move towards your goals. Therefore leadership/career coaching can help you to find your purpose in life.

  • Having also studied a PG Diploma in Careers Guidance, I have studied advanced guidance skills (i.e. client centredness, impartiality, client learning, reflective practice and respect for diversity).
  • I understand careers development theories, in other words, the psychology around why people choose their careers.
  • I also have skills in navigating Labour Market Information (LMI). This helps clients make informed plans, choices and decisions based on the roles and jobs that are actually out there in the real world. Other coaches will usually not provide this.
  • I have worked with hundreds of doctors who have made career choices, away from and within clinical careers.
